When is the 2019 VW Jetta GLI release date?

Volkswagen first introduced the GLI to the Jetta lineup in 2012 and the popularity of the sleek model has only continued to grow since then. This is in part due to the GLI’s sporty performance and features. In fact, the 2019 model is expected to receive a variety of updates, including a new suspension, engine and much more. When can you expect the 2019 VW Jetta GLI to be released? While many details of the new model are still under wraps, we expect the new VW Jetta GLI to go on sale sometime in early- to mid-2019.

What is the difference between the GLI and GTI?

Essentially, the Volkswagen GLI is a sedan equivalent of the GTI model. In fact, “GLI” stands for “grand luxury injection” and “GTI” means “grand touring injection.” In the past, the Volkswagen GLI has had the same engine as the Golf GTI, but will that be the case for 2019? That is to be seen. What we do know is the GLI is expected to come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a DSG 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. There is also a new multi-link rear suspension for the 2019 model.

How powerful will the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI be?

Volkswagen is keeping that information secret for the time being. However, we can make a guess. Perhaps the 2019 Jetta GLI gets the same 220-horsepower version of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that the Golf GTI currently has. That would give the Jetta GLI 73 horses more than the standard Volkswagen Jetta! Is it possible? Yes! We expect to see the GLI debut in early 2019 during the auto show season. We can’t wait!
