Car maintenance is one of the hardest parts of owning a car. It can be difficult to stay on top of the maintenance schedule. The maintenance can also be pretty expensive. The cost of time and money can add up after a while.

With all of the little bits and pieces that need to be replaced, it is only natural you might forget about some things. Oil changes tend to be the one repair that people don’t forget. Everybody knows that a car needs its oil changed regularly, but it’s common to forget exactly when you need to change it. What happens if you don’t change your oil for too long?

Why You Need to Change Your Oil

Obviously, oil is very important to your engine. It helps keep everything lubricated and running. It also carries heat away from the engine to make sure things don’t get too intense in your engine. There are a lot of important parts inside of an engine, so making sure they stay clean and functioning is vital. Your oil gets dirtier the more it is used, though, which is why changing it is so important.

There are some serious consequences to not changing your oil. The biggest effect is that the heat won’t be drawn away from your engine as effectively. When your engine starts to get hotter, it won’t perform as efficiently. It will also lead to poorer lubrication on your engine’s parts which will cause a lot of wear and tear. If the problem isn’t corrected, then your engine might shut down completely and need to be fully replaced.
