We’re proud to be part of the diverse Los Angeles area and to serve people of all different backgrounds, helping them find their ideal vehicle. Volkswagen Group of America has been a significant supporter of Americans with disabilities in recent years, and we at Volkswagen of Downtown LA are excited to promote the Special Olympics and Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies 2015 in Los Angeles at the LA Coliseum.
Approximately 7,000 athletes will participate in 26 different sports during the nine-day Special Olympics in Los Angeles this July, 2015. As many as 500,000 spectators are expected to attend Los Angeles’ largest sporting event since the city hosted the 1984 Summer Olympics. The Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies 2015 in Los Angeles will feature First lady Michelle Obama.
Obama has long been an established advocate of physical fitness and healthy lifestyles, and so is a perfect match for the event, which mirrors elements of the Olympic Games, such as a parade of athlete participants from around the world and a ceremonial torch-lighting.
The opening ceremonies will be broadcast live on ESPN and will feature a long list of announced and surprise entertainers, musicians, former Olympic champions and, of course, First lady Obama. Also slotted to appear are Stevie Wonder and Avril Lavigne, plus talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel, actress Eva Longoria and Olympic gold medalists Michael Phelps and Greg Louganis.
The games’ president and CEO, Patrick McClenahan, told The Associated Press that the 2015 Special Olympics will
be a “real celebration of [the] theme, which is celebrating courage, determination and joy, and creating awareness that leads to acceptance and inclusion.”
Opening Ceremony tickets are available now. Get the best seats at the LA Coliseum before they sell out!
